This is a special year for the golf tournament as we honor our fellow Rotarian and beloved friend, John Newhouse who served as the tournament chair for the past six years. John was also Club President in the 2013-2014 year. On June 11, 2017, John passed away suddenly. We are honoring the memory of our dear friend by dedicating our event to his family.
When John Newhouse joined the Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise, he found friends, a purpose and our golf tournament. As an avid golfer, John knew he could help make the golf tournament something special and he did.
John chaired our golf tournament for the past six years, and guided us in raising $120,000, which went to many local and national charities.
John served a term as the president of our club and continued to chair our golf tournament. He went on to become an Assistant Governor and mentor to other club presidents. John was always willing to share his time, talent and treasure with others.
Rotary brought him to Honduras which was an enlightening experience for John. He always had a heart for philanthropy. He was known as a leader in giving back to the community and the world.
Our hearts are heavy this year because we had to bid farewell to our friend and fellow Rotarian, John Newhouse. We lost him after a short illness. He was truly an inspiration for all of us in Rotary. We miss him every day.
To honor him and his “service above self” spirit, we dedicate our golf tournament in his name. John is survived by his wife Wendy and their two sons, John Jr. and Scott. They thank you, as do we, for participating in this fundraising event, our 31st Annual Golf Tournament:
